In this thread, I intend to expose whenever John Ramsey lies during his December 12, 2001, deposition1 in the Wolf vs. Ramsey case. It's more difficult to catch John Ramsey blatantly lying than Patsy, but trust me, I will, in addition to pointing out when he's deflecting and blundering. I've not yet decided if I'll annotate the whole interview or just the highlights, so this thread is to be considered a work in progress.
Compared to Patsy, John is very, very careful when replying to the questions and tries to stay calm at all times during the interview, which means he rarely blunders. He's obviously at a different level when it comes to staying cool, calm, and collected. In this interview, we'll see plenty of John's creepy tongue action. Many 'behavioral analysts' have unsuccessfully, IMO, tried to decode this peculiarity: does it mean he's lying, preparing to lie, or is it a general sign of internal stress?
What makes this tongue action difficult to decode is that we don't have a baseline for John Ramsey's behavior when he's not under scrutiny. A benefit of this particular interview is that we have slightly more than two hours and twenty minutes of John Ramsey on video talking, and part of Darnay's questions concern John's background, like navy and airplanes. I'm 100% sure it was part of Darnay's game plan to get a reading on John when he's talking about matters not related to the case.
There's no doubt this 'background interview' within the interview was designed to make John delve into his naval skills, ultimately leading to his opinion about the knot on the so-called "garrote," tied from a cord embedded in Jonbenet's neck. John does smell the rat when the subject of tying knots is brought up, but it does affect his composure, as we'll see. This is probably the most spectacular slip-up by John during the interview and demonstrates how morally corrupt he is.
This baseline part also reveals other sides of his deceptive nature, like plausible denial, used by Patsy as well, which I will get into when annotating the video. The next post will deal with selected parts of the deposition, and will hopefully expand to cover the complete interview as time permits.
