Erasing the Past...Oswald - Thornley correspondence What Are Miranda Rights And Who Was Ernesto Miranda?Sixty Years On | Mar. 14, 1963 (click here for video)
"On March 13th: Ernesto Miranda, a 22-year-old warehouse employee, was arrested in Phoenix, Arizona, on suspicion of rape, and subsequently convicted based on statements that he made to the police without being advised of his constitutional right not to incriminate himself.
He would fight the conviction to the United States Supreme Court, leading to the landmark 1966 decision in Miranda v. Arizona. His name lives on in the name of the instructions that all police are required to give to persons arrested, beginning with "You have the right to remain silent", referred to as the Miranda warning, and in the phrase "Miranda rights"."
