LINN, TRAVIS BROOKS died Friday in Reno after a brief illness. He was 64. The Temple, TX native was born to Noel and Pauline Linn and spent his Iife pursuing and enjoying the things he believed in which, as he often said, were "God, the innate goodness of people and the joy of learning". Travis was a graduate of Temple High School and Harvard University. He also held a graduate degree from North Texas State University. He was News Director for WFAA-TV and Radio in Dallas, TX before becoming Southwest Bureau Chief for CBS News in the 1970s. Travis came to Reno nearly two decades ago to become the first Dean of the University of Nevada-Rena's School of journalism. After stepping down as Dean, Travis taught journalism and new media studies at UNR. He also hosted several programs for Reno's Public Television. Travis was very active in the Reno community and at the First United Methodist Church, serving numerous committees and boards. Travis is survived by his wife, Sheila; his three children, Stephen, Laurent and John; his sister, Jane Aten; two nieces and four nephews. Travis will be remembered by his church family on Monday, January 20, 2003 at the First United Methodist Church at 2:00 PM. There will be a University and Community Memorial Service on Tuesday, January 21, 2003 at 4:00 PM at Nightingale Hall on the UNR campus. In lieu of flowers, the family asks contributions be made to one of two Memorial Funds set up in Travis' honor. They are the Travis Linn Memorial Fund at First Methodist Church (209 West 1st Street, Reno, NV 89503), and the Travis B. Linn Memorial Scholarship Fund for Journalism and New Media Studies at the University of Nevada-Reno (UNR Foundation, Mail Stop 162 UNR, Reno, NV 89557-0040). Arrangements are entrusted to Walton Funeral Home, 875 West Second Street, Rena, NV.
