I've developed a weakness for F. Buckley Jr., especially his dictation and the sneaky way he serves his questions. Some good stuff here which reveals the mindset of a CIA commie hater like Hunt and how funding could be covered up. Some claim Hunt was one of the Three Tramps caught in the railroad yard on 11-22.
@03:45 Beware, "buddies"! @08:15 CIA check coverup. @11:40 His WIFE calculating on behalf of all seven men involved??? @15:00 Sponsors....CIA? @19:00 BS! @21:00 The "threat". @22:20 Ellsberg reference! @24:15 "Blackmail" -- Dean was a fool.
@26:20 Killer comment by Buckley! @27:20 Twofold hazard... @30:00 "Blackmail" continued. @32:20 Excellent question. @34:00 Sneaky...Hunt scapegoat? @36:00 Tunnel vision ;-) @36:35 Remember the Three Tramps on 11-22? @40:30 Questions from audience...
@42:55 Hunt spilling the beans(?)...slightly upset!
@45:40 Inside the US...Hunt gives a damn!
@47:20 Source of funds?
@48:45 Liar.
@49:15 Butt heads get caught, appropriate terms.
@49:35 False analogy. They were not soldiers, more like illegal combatants.
@50:30 And the transcripts were fixed...
@50:50 Have a cigar ;-)
@51:00 Why would that be so difficult to answer if he was just a "CIA soldier" that got screwed?
@51:25 Brilliant Buckley comments.
@56:00 Investigative unit -- LOL
The biggest jackass turned out to be Nixon who caught himself on tape!

Hi Tom, thanks for posting this...I'll add some comments as well....
I had never seen this before - they talk about specific dates in the front. Nixon is still in the White House. It is May, 1974 Buckley is the godfather of his children and executor of his estate? - that's fair and unbiased. yea sure.BlackmailEHH is trying to pass off blackmailing the WH as the standard payment procedure for an agent being caught. He said he had requested 2 years full salary as a safety net while he is in prison. He puts the amount of money request solely on his wife. She later died mysteriously in a plane crash. Dean was just mistaken to say the word blackmail, this was a standard payment request. It was mis perceived from the one who said it, as well as the one who heard it Blackmail is a 2 sided crime - the payer is just as guilty as the extortionist. He said he was not promised clemency? He assumed it? Administrative MatterNever inquired where the funds came from? EHH says he believed one or more from the WH had gone to the CIA and said, Can you take care of funding these men. a weird service function? - administrative? CIA responsible? - What was Nixon so afraid of? LIAR - He said he never talked to Colson. Being paid as a consultant is not being hired? (see tape above) Does not know the sources of the money - no person known at the WH Earlier he says he hasn't had time to listen to the tapes, @49:17 he is describing the tapes in detail. How dare the POTUS call me an idiot or jackass. - we should re examine the context of the Pres. use of the word blackmail. Q at the end: Any other things the Pres. may have been concerned about being revealed? There were a lot of things we learned later re: a connection from JFK to Watergate Nixon was hounding Helms for assassination files on Deim (S Vietnam) and Trujillo (Dominican R), as soon as he arrived at the White House. These were part of operations that he (Nixon), was involved in as VP under Eisenhower. Hunt and the Cubans were involved in Western Hemisphere operations. WH aide, John Ehelichman said, he believed Nixon was referring to JFK when he warned it will open up the "whole Bay of Pigs thing." Frank Sturgis said the same.
It is no coincidence Gerald Ford (former WC leader) is suggested Vice President and later appointed President. At the time they knew Nixon would fall, it was suggested by the head of the Republican Party, G H W Bush.
Excellent tape Tom, thanks for sharing.

June 23, 1972 - Nixon calls a meeting and instructs Halderman to speak to Mitchell & Helms to head it off from the inside
Nixon: When you get in these people when you...get these people in, say: "Look, the problem is that this will open the whole, the whole Bay of Pigs thing, and the President just feels that" ah, without going into the details...don't, don't lie to them to the extent to say there is no involvement, but just say this is sort of a comedy of errors, bizarre, without getting into it, "the President believes that it is going to open the whole Bay of Pigs thing up again. And, ah because these people are plugging for, for keeps and that they should call the FBI in and say that we wish for the country, don't go any further into this case", period! [White House Tapes; June 23, 1972]...
Nixon: Of course, this is a, this is a Hunt, you will-that will uncover a lot of things. You open that scab there's a hell of a lot of things and that we just feel that it would be very detrimental to have this thing go any further. This involves these Cubans, Hunt, and a lot of hanky-panky that we have nothing to do with ourselves. Well what the hell, did Mitchell know about this thing to any much of a degree [White House Tapes; June 23, 1972]
Nixon White House Tapes March 21 1973
DEAN...let me give you my overall first. PRESIDENT: In other words, you, your judgment as to where it stands, and where we go now---
DEAN: I think, I think that, uh, there's no doubt about the seriousness of the problem we're, we've got. We have a cancer--within, close to the Presidency, that's growing. It's growing daily. It's compounding, it grows geometrically now because it compounds itself. Uh, that'll be clear as I explain you know, some of the details, uh, of why it is, and it basically is because (1) we're being blackmailed; (2) uh, people are going to start perjuring them self very quickly that have not had to perjure themselves to protect other people and the like. And that is just--and there is no assurance-
Nixon: Well, your major guy to keep under control is Hunt. Dean: That’s right.
Nixon: I think. Because, he knows . . . Dean: He knows so much.
Nixon: . . . about a lot of other things.
PRESIDENT: How much money do you need? DEAN: I would say these people are going to cost, uh, a million dollars over the next, uh, - two years. (Pause)
PRESIDENT: We could get that. DEAN: Uh, huh.
PRESIDENT: You, on the money, if you need the money, I mean, uh' you could get the money. Let's say-- DEAN: Well, I think that we're going--
PRESIDENT: What I mean is, you could, you could get a million dollars. And you could get it in cash. I, I know where it could be gotten.

August 1, 1972A $25,000 cashier's check, apparently earmarked for the Nixon campaign, wound up in the bank account of a Watergate burglar The Washington Post reports. Post StoryFrom: The Nixon Administration and Watergate: Payoffs and BlackmailWhite House aide Charles Colson and Watergate burglar E. Howard Hunt discuss Hunt’s demand for “hush money” in a telephone call. Hunt says he called “because the commitments that were made to all of us [Hunt and the other six burglars, all of whom are facing trial] have not been kept.” He continues: “There’s a great deal of concern on the part of the seven defendants. There’s a great deal of financial expense here that is not covered. What we’ve been getting has been coming in very minor drips and drabs. We’re now reaching a point at which—” “Don’t tell me anymore,” Colson interjects. Hunt says, “[T]his thing should not break apart for foolish reasons,” which Colson interprets as a veiled threat that Hunt will begin talking to prosecutors about his involvement in the Watergate conspiracy. Colson seems to get the message: “Christ no.… You’ve told me all I need to know… the less I know really about what happened, the more help I can be to you.” Hunt says: “We’ve set a deadline now for the close of business on November 25 for the resolution, the liquidation of everything that’s outstanding.… I’m talking about promises from July and August. We could understand some hesitancy prior to the election but there doesn’t seem to be any of that now. Of course, we’re well aware of the upcoming problems of the Senate” . Colson replies, “That’s where it gets hairy as hell.” Hunt continues: "We’re protecting the guys who were really responsible. That’s a continuing requirement. But this is a two-way street…We think now is the time when some moves should be made, and surely your cheapest commodity is money.” 21st December, 1972 James W. McCord (WH Plumber hired by Caulfied) wrote a letter to Jack Caulfield (head of ATF): “Sorry to have to write you this letter but felt you had to know. If Helms goes, and if the WG (Watergate) operation is laid at the CIA's feet, where it does not belong, every tree in the forest will fall. It will be a scorched desert. The whole matter is at the precipice right now. Just pass the message that if they want it to blow, they are on exactly the right course. I'm sorry that you will get hurt in the fallout.” ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ It was never revealed what exactly was being used to blackmail the White House.
Although blackmail is a 2 sided crime, Nixon resigned on charges of obstruction of justice. Pres. Gerald Ford, gave him a full and unconditional pardon "for any crimes he may have committed."
